Happy Woolseymas!
Today in 1933, US District Court Judge John Woolsey decided that the James Joyce novel Ulysses was not "pornographic", and therefore could not be considered obscene. The decision allowed the book to be sold and read in the United States.

December 6th is celebrated as Woolseymas, a reminder that our freedom to think for ourselves often hangs on the courage and common sense of our judiciary.

Thank you, Judge Woolsey.

(I heart obscure holidays.)
